In line with Baltic Horizon’s commitment to continuously improve the environmental performance of its assets, it has been a key ESG priority for the fund to certify its properties with the internationally recognized BREEAM standards.

In 2021, the portfolio of office buildings received BREEAM certification, and in 2022, a costed retail portfolio certification plan was implemented with the goal to have a 100% certified portfolio by the end of 2023.

The Estonian retail assets – Postimaja, CC Plaza and Pirita – have all achieved BREEAM In-Use certification with a ‘Good’ rating.

Obtaining certifications for properties that have been in operation for many years is not without challenges. We are proud that our buildings are compliant with the strict BREEAM standards, and we are very pleased with the ratings, commented Jūratė Gaspariūnienė, portfolio manager for Baltic Horizon’s retail assets.

BREEAM certification is one of the world’s leading sustainability assessment systems for buildings, developed by the British BRE Global. The assessment, being conducted by independent licensed experts, evaluates building design solutions, quality and eco-friendliness of materials and technology used, general sustainability, comfort of premises for end users, maintenance level and other environment-friendly solutions and features.

With the certification of Postimaja, CC Plaza and Pirita in Estonia, we have reached another important milestone in the efforts to deliver on our ESG goals. Our efforts continue, and we hope to be able to announce 100% portfolio certification before the end of 2023, added Tarmo Karotam, Fund Manager for Baltic Horizon Fund.

Baltic Horizon is dedicated to advancing environmental, social and good corporate governance goals. The Fund recently achieved a four-stars GRESB rating. In addition, Northern Horizon, the management company of Baltic Horizon Fund, has set an ambitious target to reach net zero emissions from operations for all managed funds by 2030. This target includes Baltic Horizon Fund.
